Olajuwon Sims (born May 9, 1990) known professionally as King Fresh, is an American producer, songwriter and composer. He has received acclaim for his unique and innovative sounds. In 2021 the BET team stated “you really are the epitome of what we were hoping to do here” regarding the 2021 BET x NISSAN Next Up Producer Competition.

King Fresh’s first production, music for a Mcleod Seacoast commercial, followed soon after his internships at Fluid/Gimme Butter in NYC and Concentrix Music and Sound Design (now Storyline Music and Sound) based out of Charlotte, NC. The commercial went on to win a student Addy Award given by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) and was the first received by a Benedict College student.

King Fresh earned his B.A. Degree from Benedict College (Columbia, SC) in 2013. Following graduation he moved to Cleveland, OH and worked as a Freelance Composer. Soon after his relocation he teamed up with Garage Creative Studios to collaborate on a project for Hitchcock Fleming & Associates (now Aftermath), an advertising agency based out of Akron, Ohio. King Fresh continued to work diligently on perfecting his sound and creativity and moved to Northern Virginia.

While in Virginia, King Fresh continued his music endeavors and became a husband and father. A few years into his relocation, King Fresh entered the 2021 BET x NISSAN Next Up Producer Competition, in collaboration with 7-time Grammy nominee Just Blaze and was selected as a finalist out of thousands of submissions. King Fresh traveled to New York with two other finalists for a once in a lifetime opportunity to present an original project and have a one-on-one coaching session with Just Blaze. His original submission was given high praise. A BET team member stated, “your track, Just Blaze said it, he didn’t even have to do that much to it, it came in hot”. King Fresh won the competition and his original project titled “Drippin’” joined the Nissan Pathfinder commercial rotation before, during and after the 2021 Bet Hip Hop Awards.

The competition fueled King Fresh to continue his endeavors and he did so with Navelle Hice, a lyricist from Chester, PA that he met during his time in New York. Hice worked with the competitors to add lyrics to their productions. King Fresh and Hice had instant musical chemistry and together, impressed Just Blaze who during their studio session, suggested that the two make an EP together. Blaze hinted that he would like a project done in six months. King Fresh and Hice were able to create their first EP titled “Blaze Made Us Do It” together in six weeks. The EP impressed Just Blaze as well as BET Network. The record “Get It and Flip It” from “Blaze Made Us Do It” premiered on BET Jams as well as BET’s YouTube Channel. King Fresh and Hice also appeared in BET’s Amplified segment on their website.

Today, King Fresh continues to have a special love with and for music and connects it to his everyday life. Music, to King Fresh, is ideally his best form of communication. He continues to produce and focus on soundtracks for post-production.
